No, the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT) does not issue orders or threats to its practitioners. Buddha’s teachings should never be used as a weapon against others. Some NKT Survivors have reported that someone told them they will go to hell if they do something wrong at their NKT Center. If such things were said, they were unskillful and unkind, and we apologize.

It is possible to misunderstand Buddhist teachings, including teachings about the existence of hell. Buddha Shakyamuni taught that hell is a realm of experience that appears to or is reflected by the most negative and destructive mind. It can be created only by our own delusions and negative actions. Buddhism does not teach that Buddha or anyone else sits in judgment of our actions. It is impossible for our rebirth to be created for us by another person or organization.
